Mourinho facing defensive crisis ahead of Gunners clash

Cape Town - Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is facing a defensive crisis with eight players potentially unavailable ahead of Wednesday's clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones are all suffering with knocks whereas Ashley Young is suspended for the Premier League contest.

In addition, forward Marcus Rashford could also miss out after he picked up an injury in the 2-2 draw with Southampton.

However, despite the raft of injuries at the back, Mourinho was remaining typically defiant as he refused to reveal team news to MUTV - United's official TV challenge.

He said: "Looking to next match I say we are going to be in difficulties to build a team we are going to have to make adaptations, compensations to give some balance to the team.

"But I believe we will have the spirit to fight and win the match. I don't want to update you (when asked by the journalist).

"I would like Arsenal TV to make the same questions, but they don't, they hide everything from the inside, so why should I answer to you so why should I give anything to you."

With that said, the Unai Emery-coached outfit did reveal team news via their official channels. Mesut Ozil is in doubt with a back concern as is Laurent Koscielny, who is recovering from an achilles problem.

Nacho Monreal faces a late fitness test while Granit Xhaka is banned after picking up five yellow cards.
