Memphis looks to Giggs for inspiration

Cape Town - Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has spoken of his admiration of the club's "inspirational" assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

Memphis has endured a difficult start to his Red Devil's career following his high-profile £25million move from PSV in the summer.

The tricky winger has scored six goals in 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but errors and inconsistency have prevented him from becoming a regular in Louis Van Gaal's starting 11.

The 22-year-old is under the tuition of 13-time Premier League winner and current assistant manager Ryan Giggs, who is helping the Netherlands international adapt to the Premier League.

"Ryan Giggs is a legend," Depay said. "He talks a lot with me and gives me advice to equip me. He has experienced everything already so he helps with all kinds of things, he works a lot with me," Depay said at a promotional event for Under Armour.

"[Working with Giggs] makes me even hungrier on the training ground, it makes me want to try new things.

"I ask him for advice because he's been there; he knows how to read the circumstances, how to handle situations. It is really inspiring and, at the same time, helpful."

Memphis went on to admit that he knows he has not yet lived up to his transfer fee but that he "will continue to fight for it".

"I expect a lot from myself, that is important, and the club and I are busy trying to improve it," he added.

"I have really had to change my game because in the Eredivisie I could do what I wanted as I had time on the ball, I played on feelings. Here [Premier League] there is direct pressure so it's hard.

"This has affected my game a little bit - everyone can see I'm not scoring every game like I used to but I can feel it getting better and, as I get to know the league more, I feel better and my confidence is growing again."

Manchester United host Midtjylland in the second-leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday night, looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, in which Memphis scored United's only goal of the game.
