Cape Town - Lothar Matthaus has opined that Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should cost more than Manchester United's Paul Pogba.

The Gabon international has hit 16 in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, and Matthaus believes that should make him more valuable than even the world's most expensive player.

"If a player like Pogba costs €105m, Dortmund would have to get €150m for Aubameyang," the former Germany international wrote in Sport Bild.

"He is a player who makes the difference. Pogba does not. Aubameyang has developed a lot and cannot be put off by anything. I hope we see him for a long time in the Bundesliga."

The 27-year-old forward seems to have reached his peak form at the perfect time for his country, as Gabon prepare to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

They will do so with on the world's deadliest strikers leading the line when they kick off the tournament against Guinea-Bissau on January 14th.
