Man United to return for Eriksen in January transfer window

Cape Town - Manchester United are reportedly set to return with a fresh offer for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

The transfer window may be closed but that is not stopping rumours about what could happen when it re-opens in the new year, and reports are rife suggesting that United will make another move for Eriksen.

The Danish international is known to be a top target for United and it has now been claimed that Tottenham turned down at least one offer from the Reds during the summer transfer window.

Spurs have been working hard to get Eriksen tied down to a new deal, but the player is not interested as he wants to move on in search of a fresh challenge, and United could offer him that.

United are said to have made Tottenham an offer of £70 million for the playmaker, only for it to be turned down by their chairman Daniel Levy.

There is the possibility that Levy did not want to sell to United, a direct Premier League rival, but United will not be deterred and reports claim they will make another attempt in January.

At that point Eriksen will have just six months remaining on his contract and Spurs will either have to cash in or face the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Eriksen has no intention of signing a new deal. It is claimed that he has already turned down three offers from Levy as he is determined to move away.

There will be no shortage of interest again, especially if Eriksen is available for a cut-price fee. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were all heavily linked before the European window closed on Monday, but again a deal failed to happen.

Tottenham's resolve will be tested to the max in January and United will be at the front of the queue trying to strike a deal.

Real are said to be the player's preferred option, but it is thought after spending big throughout the summer, they backed away from a deal as they are keeping their powder dry for a renewed attempt to sign Reds star Paul Pogba.

Pogba will be going nowhere until the end of the season at least, but if he does move on then replacements will be needed and Eriksen is high on United's wanted list.

Tottenham will just be relieved that the window is now closed, and they have him available for the next five months, but the rumours are not going away.
