Cape Town - Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez at the end of the season with an announcement to be made imminently.

AS Sport have revealed that the 25-year-old's transfer to Old Trafford will be made public this weekend following Madrid's final La Liga fixture at home against Malaga on Sunday.

Rodriguez who has had limited game time over the past two seasons appeared to say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabau crowd when substituted in Sunday's 4-1 win over Sevilla.

The former Monaco player also shares an agent with Jose Mourinho with both men being represented by super agent Jorge Mendes.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague also confirmed on Twitter that a deal had been struck between the two clubs that could see United goalkeeper David De Gea move in the opposite direction.

The Spanish stopper according to reports has put his home up for sale which eluded to a future transfer away from the English giants.

The Colombian's transfer could also have ramifications for club captain Wayne Rooney and his future at United. As it was rumoured that Rodriguez has a clause in a mega-deal contract with Adidas which stipulates that he must wear the number 10 jersey at whichever team he plays for, with Rooney the current holder of that number.
