Manchester United are set to extend the loan deal of Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo following the suspension of all European football, according to Sky Sports News.

The 30-year-old inked a six-month loan deal during the January transfer window deadline-day which comes to an end on 30 June.

Football, along with all other sporting codes around the globe, has been brought to a stop due to the deadly coronavirus.

The Premier League will resume in the first week of May as the association announced that games will not take place until 30 April.

However, many predict that the campaign might even resume in late May or June depending on the spreading of the virus.

Ighalo, like many other players on loan deals running until June, will have to wait anxiously whether their deals will be extended beyond their current contract.

Meanwhile, United have moved ahead of the club’s waiting for FIFA and are said to be close to extending Ighalo’s stay.

The striker has netted four strikes in eight appearances in all competitions thus far with many believing that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will offer him a permanent stay.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League standings with hopes of breaking into the top four.

Nine matchdays remain in the league with four teams - Manchester City, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Sheffield United - having 10 matches to play.
