Cape Town - Manchester City have reportedly earmarked Schalke midfielder Leroy Sane as a marquee signing ahead of 2016/17 season.
New City manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be keen on securing the services of the Germany international, who has been hailed as one of the most exciting talents in his country.
However, the Citizens will have to wait for the conclusion of the Euro 2016 if they hope to complete a deal, although Schalke boss Markus Weinzierl has urged Sane to remain at the club as he is a key player in the first team.
"He should stay with Schalke. Leroy is one of several players that I like," Weinzeirl said.
"Fans can identify with him and the club needs these sort of players. He is an important player."
Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also said to be interested in Sane, who featured 42 times in all competitions for the Royal Blues last season, netting nine goals and creating seven.
