Lloris: Pogba unfairly judged by transfer fee

Cape Town - France captain Hugo Lloris has defended Paul Pogba, insisting the Manchester United midfielder is unfairly judged because of the size of his transfer fee.

Pogba rejoined Manchester United from Juventus in the summer of 2016 for £89 million in what was at the time a world-record transfer fee.

But a running feud with manager Jose Mourinho and a series of mediocre performances in the Premier League have seen Pogba come in for criticism from fans and pundits.

However, Tottenham keeper Lloris, who played with Pogba for the French national team as they won the World Cup in Russia this summer, said the criticism is largely based on the big money sum United forked out for the 25-year old.

“He has a status in the UK, maybe because of his huge transfer fee," Lloris said.

“Sometimes people judge him not very fairly. Now he has more maturity, he knows what he needs to do, he proves that with us.

“I think his performances at United are far from being as bad as people say.

“He is part of a team which has worse results than we could have expected, that's for sure."
