Liverpool to miss out on German youngster

Cape Town - Borussia Monchengladbach will retain the services of Mahmoud Dahoud for this season at least after a move away from the club was ruled out.

The 20-year-old was the subject of interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, among other clubs, but the player's agent has now insisted his client is going nowhere.

Dahoud, who was born in Syria, is a German Under-21 international tipped with a bright future, and was under scrutiny from Jurgen Klopp's scouts last season.

But with former teammate Granit Xhaka having already signed for Arsenal, the Bundesliga club are naturally not keen to lose Dahoud as well.

The player's agent Reza Fazeli told the Guardian: "It is certain Mahmoud will stay with Gladbach for now.

"There has been a lot of interest in him, not just from Liverpool. But we have an agreement with Gladbach and everything has been postponed for next season.

"We will have to wait and see what happens in the future but it will be up to the club to accept a fee they think is acceptable."

Dahoud scored five goals and created a further nine in his 33 Bundesliga appearances last season.
