Liverpool still waiting for Chirivella's response over new deal

Liverpool have offered Pedro Chirivella a new five-year contract but the midfielder is reportedly yet to accept the offer.

Chirivella is one of the longest-serving players in the Liverpool camp having joined the club's youth ranks in 2013 aged 17, making appearances for both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.

The Spaniard, now 22, has been sent on three loans in his almost-seven-year spell with the Reds but returned from his most recent move last summer and staged something of a resurgence this season.

Chirivella made three appearances in the EFL Cup and three more in the FA Cup and looked particularly impressive against Everton in the third round of the latter competition in January.

According to Goal, Liverpool are keen to keep the midfielder after being impressed by his performances and the leadership qualities he has shown this term.

The Reds reportedly hope that the "security" of a five-year deal - with his current contract set to expire at the end of June - could be an attractive proposition to Chirivella and his representatives.

However, the source adds that there have been approaches from several clubs across Europe including Nantes and Rangers.

Chirivella is yet to make a decision on his future, but as per the Premier League's statement on Monday, he will be given the opportunity to sign a short-term extension to allow him to finish the current campaign.

Should the season resume, Liverpool need two wins to claim their first league title in 30 years.
