Cape Town - Liverpool are set to sign former Barcelona defender Juan Manuel Garcia after the player impressed on trial over the last couple of months.
The 19-year-old left-back began his trial period with the club in July when he played for the under-23 side in a win over Welsh outfit Rhyl.
Garcia has since done enough to impress and will be handed a contract subject to undergoing a medical with the Jurgen Klopp-coached team.
The versatile defender can play either at left-back or centre-back and will go into Michael Beale's under-23 squad for the 2016/17 season.
The teenager started out in Barcelona's youth ranks where he made 17 appearances in the UEFA Youth League, including six times as captain.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Reds under-23 coach Beale said, "He's very versatile and can play in different positions because technically he's very good. I quite like him, he reminds me a little bit of someone like a Pablo Zabaleta-type player, a nice player."
