Liverpool move for Sporting's Fernandes

Cape Town - Liverpool appears to be at the front of the queue for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes, with reports in Portugal claiming the Reds have lodged a £40 million bid.

The 24-year-old is on the wanted list of many following an impressive spell with Sporting that saw him fire home 29 goals and provide a further 17 assists last season.

However, the Reds have stolen a march on all their rivals by making a £40 million bid and hope it will be enough to get him on board at Anfield.

The claim has been made by the Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, who also believes that Liverpool are the only club to have made a bid so far.

The good news for Liverpool is it also looks as though Fernandes would prefer to sign for Liverpool over everyone else.

"I like Liverpool a lot more, it's a more direct (style of play), more offensive, maybe less organized, but more intense football, when you do not have the ball possession, you are more intense," he said recently.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to add to his ranks and Fernandes is clearly a top target.
