Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner would be the perfect addition to the Reds' squad.
Jurgen Klopp has built Liverpool up to a position of strength over the past few years, following up last season's win in the Champions League with a strong Premier League campaign this term.
The Reds had a 25-point lead at the top of the division when it was suspended, and will be hoping to earn their first Premier League title if and when action resumes.
Liverpool have spent wisely over the past few seasons, bringing in the likes of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah for bargain fees compared to their true value - but they were not particularly busy last summer.
Werner - who has scored 27 goals this season for Leipzig in all competitions - is a name that keeps popping up and Thompson thinks the Germany international is a transfer that Liverpool "need" to make.
"I think he'll give a realistic challenge to the front three. Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino - they look as though they're set," Thompson told Sky Sports.
"We do have Divock Origi but I think everybody realises that he's more of an impact player, for sort of the last 15, 20 minutes - but that's not really good enough.
"We do need somebody a little bit better. Some people will say, 'Will Werner get in and will he want to come to Liverpool?'. I think he would and I think he does.
"You look at Manchester City, they've got two top class players in every position. That is what Liverpool need and I think Werner would help to give us that.
"With the lure of Jurgen Klopp, I think that would tick the box for him, and I think he would be a fantastic signing. Something that we do actually need."
