Liverpool extend Ward contract

Cape Town - Liverpool have rewarded goalkeeper Danny Ward with a long-term contract and will send the Wales international on a season-long loan to Huddersfield town.

The club announced the deal on Monday, two weeks after the player returned from France after helping Chris Coleman's Wales side to the semi-final stage of the European Championship.

Since joining the Reds in 2012, Ward has only made two Premiership appearances, but at the young age of 23 he still has a long career ahead of him and Jurgen Klopp will no doubt look to have the promising stopper in the wings.

Ward will link up with Jurgen Klopp's former colleague at Borrusia Dortmund, David Wagner, at Huddersfield Town.

"I've spoken before about using the loan market to bring special talent to the club. And Danny is another great example of this, following closely on from Aaron Mooy's arrival. That is why there was such strong competition to take Danny." Wagner told reporters, referring to Manchester City's Australian signing who will also spend a season with the Terriers.

"I would like to thank Liverpool for the help the staff at the club have given us in allowing Danny to join us," he continued. "Danny is a goalkeeper that Liverpool rates very highly, which is why he has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

"He did very well out on loan last season [at Aberdeen] and I believe we can help him take the next step in his career this season, so he will return to Liverpool a better goalkeeper," the Huddersfield boss concluded.
