'Liverpool are a big club, any links are flattering'

Cape Town - Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet has hinted he would welcome a move to Liverpool after being linked with the European champions.

Cornet has emerged as a surprise target for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp after enjoying a solid 2018-19 campaign in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old scored seven goals in 27 league appearances for Les Gones in the past season although he only started 12 of those matches.

However, that has not stopped Liverpool being linked with the Ivory Coast international, who has now indicated he may be interested in a move to Anfield after his negotiations over signing a new contract with Lyon broke down earlier this year.

"I did not say I wanted to leave,” he said as quoted by beIN Sports.

"We met the president [Jean-Michel Aulas] in January and I said I wanted to extend [my contract] but talks were not successful

"Liverpool are a big club, any links are flattering. I’m under contract until 2021 but you never know in football, so we’ll see."
