Lineker honours Leicester underpants vow

London - Former England striker Gary Lineker fulfilled his promise to mark Leicester City's fairytale Premier League triumph by wearing his underpants on national television on Saturday.

After Leicester held onto top spot by beating Chelsea 2-1 last December, Lineker wrote on Twitter: "If Leicester win the @premierleague I'll do the first MOTD (Match of the Day) of next season in just my undies."

The 55-year-old was true to his word, introducing the BBC's Match of the Day flagship highlights programme wearing just a pair of white boxer shorts.

"Here we go again: new season, new titles, new managers, new signings, but apart from that, nothing much has really changed," Lineker said.

The camera then panned to studio guests Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, both of whom were grinning broadly.

Lineker started his career at Leicester, his home-town club, and went on to play for Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight.

He made 80 appearances for England and scored 48 goals, including 10 at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.

He has since become a well-known TV presenter and was one of Leicester's most vocal public supporters during their run to the title last season.

But he had little to celebrate on Saturday after the champions were beaten 2-1 by promoted Hull City in their opening game of the season.
