Cape Town - Jamie Vardy netted a hat-trick as Leicester City thrashed Manchester City 4-2 in an enthralling Premier League tie on Saturday evening.

Vardy got Leicester off to the perfect start with a goal in the third minute before Andy King volleyed home a second just two minutes later.

Vardy then stunned City with his second goal of the game after 20 first-half minutes before completing his hat-trick in the 78th minute.

Aleksandar Kolarov netted a late goal for City after 82 minutes while Nolito ensured a tense final few minutes for the hosts when he scored in the 90th minute.

With the supporters of both sides still settling into their seats, Vardy latched onto a great flick from Mahrez after a long ball forward from Islam Slimani, who fired home as he raced through between John Stones and Kolarov.

And before they knew what hit them, City found themselves further behind as Christian Fuchs' long throw was teed up by Slimani leaving King to volley the ball past an outstretched Claudio Bravo, who got a slight touch on the ball.

Stones was then well placed to block a goal-bound Mahrez shot before Slimani blasted over after a good knockdown from Robert Huth.

Kelechi Iheanacho was offside as he came close to turning home a Kevin De Bruyne delivery as Ron Robert Zieler punched clear a dangerous cross from the Belgian on 19 minutes.

Leicester were soon three goals up as Vardy rounded Bravo before slotting home after a superb one-touch pass from Mahrez to create the chance following a great long ball forward to release the Algerian.

Mahrez could have inflicted more misery on Pep Guardiola's City with a well-hit shot after powering into the area as Kolarov headed wide from a De Bruyne corner.

A succession of City corners had Leicester pegged back, and Zieler had to stretch to reach the ball ahead of Iheanacho from a deep De Bruyne delivery.

Leicester were forced to dig deep in defence at the end of the first half as a Fernando shot that looked to be heading in, was blocked en route to goal by King, while the hosts had the last real chance of the first half as Slimani headed just wide of the target after attacking a Marc Albrighton ball into the area.

De Bruyne fired just wide of the right post after a nervy moment for Leicester as Iheanacho missed his header inside the box before Pablo Zabaletta had a shot blocked by Albrighton, and Jesus Navas curled his subsequent effort just around the post.

Zieler punched clear a De Bruyne cross from the left as Daniel Amartey hit a speculative effort off target following another good spell from the champions.

Ilkay Gundogan directed his side-footed shot wide after being teed up by Iheanacho before Guardiola tried to affect the outcome of this match by introducing Raheem Stirling for Iheanacho and Yaya Toure for Navas in the 58th minute.

Zabaletta saw his deflected shot curl just past a post before Slimani ghosted through the City defence and firing a weak effort for Bravo to smother.

And City's misses were to prove costly as Vardy grabbed his hat-trick after latching onto a poor back pass from Stones to round Bravo and slot home from a tight angle with 78 minutes on the clock, with the ball rolling just over the line as Bacary Sagna tried to get back in time to hack clear.

Kolarov though did manage to pull one back for City with a curling free-kick into the top right corner before late substitute Nolito slotted home a Kolarov pass from the left in the 90th minute.

Nolito came close to a second following a Stirling ball into the box from the left as City continued to press their opponents, who ultimately held on for a deserved three points.
