London - Chelsea are being linked with a swoop for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, who is valued in the region of £35 million.
The Uruguay international showed his class last season when firing home 18 goals in La Liga, and he has carried on where he left off in this campaign, scoring nine in 24 appearances so far.
Such form has alerted Chelsea, who are on the look out for a new striker just in case Gonzalo Higuain does not complete a permanent move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Gomez is said to have all the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League and Chelsea are weighing up a swoop when the transfer window opens again.
However, they may not be alone. Premier League rivals Liverpool have also been showing an interest in the striker for some time and will battle Chelsea for the signing, should he become available.
Much will depend on the future of Higuain and Olivier Giroud this summer, but it certainly looks as though Gomez is on the radar of Blues nonetheless.
