Kompany will turn down Milan chance

Cape Town - Veteran defender Vincent Kompany will reject a lucrative offer from AC Milan to sign a new one-year deal to remain a Manchester City player.

The Italian giants have been alerted to the fact the Citizens' talisman skipper is out of contract in the next few months and are offering his camp a massive last pay-day to finish his career playing in Serie A.

However, sources close to the player have stated the 32-year-old is confident of remaining at the Etihad and has already made it clear to club bosses that he is not entertaining proposals from elsewhere.

It is understood Milan are waving a three-year deal under Kompany's nose, with City only prepared to review his playing status on an annual basis.

That suits the Belgium international, though, who has been at City for over a decade and has been back at the heart of Pep Guardiola's rear-guard in recent games due to the injury absence of Aymeric Laporte.

Kompany presently earns around £200 000 per week, with suggestions the veteran will be asked by City to take a small reduction in salary to account for his poor injury record and reduced playing time, so Milan will be disappointed their own financial carrot still has not turned his head.
