Koeman rules out Toffees exit

Cape Town - Everton head coach Ronald Koeman says he has no interest in leaving the club for the Netherlands national team hot-seat.

With Dick Advocaat set to step down as The Oranje boss at the end of 2017 after the European side failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year, Koeman has made a bold assertion.

"Of course my name is linked to the Dutch national team job and that was also the case a few years ago," he told reporters. "But I am now manager of Everton and that is the most important thing. I will not become Dutch national team manager.

"I believe the Dutch national team has lost too much quality. There are no longer any top international players in the squad. Arjen Robben was the last one and he has just retired from the Dutch national team."

The former Southampton head coach feels the current crop of national team players left the Eredivisie too early during their development - which has hindered them on their ventures abroad.

"We still have talent but our players are too quick to go abroad. There was a time where we had big footballers. But now we have fallen away.

"Belgium and Germany have adapted and we still have to react. But we will come back because the Netherlands have always produced good footballers."
