Klopp refutes Mignolet exit talk

Cape Town - Manager Jurgen Klopp has denied speculation that Simon Mignolet will be leaving Liverpool despite a lack of game-time last season.

The Belgium international lost his spot in the starting XI in 2018-19 after Alisson was signed from Roma for £65 million.

Alisson proved to be a fantastic buy for the Merseyside outfit after keeping 21 clean sheets to scoop the Premier League‘s Golden Glove award.

Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain as Liverpool finished second to City but he did play a key role in helping them to win the Champions League.

His exploits restricted Mignolet to just 180 minutes of the campaign last term and recent reports suggest that the ‘keeper could be sold this summer.

However, Klopp has moved to dispel those rumours and insists he wants to keep the former Sunderland man in his ranks for 2019-20.

Klopp said: "I’ve had a lot of conversations in the last couple of years, months – not weeks.

"Before we left [for the summer break] we had a talk. I would say yes [he stays].

"At a club like Liverpool you need two number ones in the club and we have that with Ali and Simon.

"It’s a good situation for the club and a situation you should have and that’s why everything is fine from my point of view."
