Cape Town - Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reckons "football has a great product" in the Champions League and Europa League and is hopeful that a European Super League "will never happen".
Last season Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal were all named in documents which were released by Football Leaks and published by German news magazine Der Spiegel.
The documents claimed they are among 16 clubs who would leave their domestic competitions to play in the new league as early as 2021.
Such a move would leave the future of the leading domestic leagues and major competitions such as the Champions League in question.
However, those claims were dismissed in the same month when UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said the European Super League "will not happen".
And Reds boss Klopp really doesn’t want to see a Super League happen.
"I hope this Super League will never happen," Klopp told Kicker.
"With the way the Champions League is now running, football has a great product, even with the Europa League.
"For me, the Champions League is the Super League, in which you do not always end up playing against the same teams.
"Of course, it is economically important, but why should we create a system where Liverpool faces Real Madrid for 10 straight years? Who wants to see that every year?"
