Klopp hints at keeping Joe Allen at Liverpool

Cape Town - Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping Joe Allen will decide to extend his stay at the club after the midfielder was included in the Euros team of the tournament.

Prior to the European Championship, Allen was expected to leave Anfield in the off-season after he only played 19 times, 11 of which were off the bench, in the Premier League for the Reds last season.

The 26-year-old only has 12 months left on his contract and Liverpool were widely expected to cash in on him now rather than extend his contract or lose him on a free transfer when the deal expires next year.

However, the playmaker's outstanding form at the Euros has convinced Klopp and the club to keep him around.

"We will find a solution but it's not done," the manager said after the Reds thrashed Fleetwood Town in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

"Obviously Joe Allen is a good player. We never doubted this. He played a good European Championship, like the whole Welsh team.

"We have to make decisions, we have to find solutions. We have to talk to the player, ask the player and think about our situation. That's how it works."

Allen has made over 90 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Welsh club Swansea in 2012, but prior to the Euros no negotiations had been entered into over a contract extension, but that looks likely to change in the coming days.
