The Foxes goalkeeper rushed to the scene after hearing an explosion and sirens from emergency vehicles after Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha's helicopter crashed outside the King Power Stadium.

Sky Sports revealed that Schmeichel had to be held back as he heroically attempted to help.

Manager Claude Puel confirmed that Schmeichel was the only player still at the stadium conducting interviews after playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against West Ham united.

"I don’t want to give all the details of course," Puel said. "Just for Kasper. He saw a lot of things.

"Kasper, like other players, are devastated. All my squad have a lot of sadness and upset"

The Dane posted an emotional letter on Twitter to Srivaddhanaprabha after his death was confirmed.

Video footage also captured Schmeichel at the scene with the player - who can be seen in the bottom right at the end of the video - clearly devastated by what he had witnessed.
