Jonk: De Boer needs a 'few months' at Palace

Cape Town - Former Netherlands manager Wim Jonk believes Frank de Boer can turn things around at Crystal Palace but needs much more time to instil his ideas into the players.

The Eagles have struggled to adapt to De Boer's possession-based style of play, which contrasts with former manager Sam Allardyce's direct style, and have suffered three consecutive defeats as a result.

De Boer's side have lost against Huddersfield Town, Liverpool, and Swansea City, but Jonk has faith that his former Ajax team-mate will be able to get Palace firing, given enough time.

“It’s a crazy world,” said Jonk, according to the Evening Standard. “The football world is a crazy world.”

“What can you do? He [De Boer] does his best, and I saw some bits of the game against Liverpool and they had the chance to get 1-0 up with the great chance of [Christian] Benteke and they lost 1-0 at the end because of maybe an own goal.

“Then you think okay, it’s such a small line where you are as a coach so I think leave him [De Boer] a few months so then he’s set in and then see what he does under this sort of pressure and then look how he comes out.”
