Cape Town - Inter Milan representatives are expected to sit down with Manchester United chiefs on Thursday in a bid to thrash out a deal for Belgium international Romelu Lukaku.
Executives from the San Siro have a meeting scheduled with their Old Trafford counterparts ahead of the two teams playing each other on Saturday in Shanghai.
Inter are proposing £40 million cash now - significantly less than the Red Devils' demands for £75m - with a further £20 million over two years plus £15 million in add-ons.
It's understood Old Trafford chiefs are asking for more money upfront from the Serie A giants, who need to stay the right side of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations.
However, there is confidence from influential power-broker Piero Ausilio that they can strike a compromise deal for Lukaku, who has made no secret of his desire to secure the switch and play under new Inter boss Antonio Conte.
The powerful Belgium international has regularly cut a frustrated figure in a United shirt since his £75m move from Everton two years ago, with striker Marcus Rashford already earmarked for the main striker role next season at the Theatre of Dreams.
