Hull fined for Clattenburg dissent

London - Hull have been fined  £20,000 ($25,000) after accepting a charge from England's governing Football Association (FA) of failing to control their players during Saturday's defeat by Arsenal.

Tigers players surrounded referee Mark Clattenburg after Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs was merely booked, rather than sent off, for fouling Lazar Markovic when the Hull winger was clear on goal.

Hull were 1-0 down at the time in a match they eventually lost 2-0.

Before the start of this season, the Premier League insisted they would clamp down on players surrounding referees, with officials empowered to show a yellow card for dissent in such circumstances.

Yet the experienced Clattenburg took no such action, and was content to caution Gibbs for the preceding foul alone.

Hull were already annoyed at having conceded a controversial goal in the first half when, after an initial blocked effort from Alexis Sanchez rebounded into the net off the Chilean forward's raised hand.

Saturday's match is set to be Clattenburg's final game as a Premier League referee after it was announced Thursday he was leaving English football to take up a position as head of refereeing in Saudi Arabia.
