Cape Town - Following
his acrimonious departure from West Ham this week, the Hammers have
announced they will replace Dimitri Payet's mural outside the stadium
with one of Andy Carroll's bicycle kick.
Former fan hero Payet left the club in controversial circumstances near the end of the transfer window after going on strike, but luckily for Hammers fans there is an even better moment for them to remember every time they go to watch a game.
"West Ham United are delighted to
announce that work has begun on new branding on the outside of London
Stadium which celebrates Andy Carroll's wonder strike against Crystal
Palace," the club statement read.
"Carroll netted one of the Premier League's all-time greatest goals as he acrobatically converted Michail Antonio's cross to help the Hammers to an emphatic 3-0 victory.
"The brand new mural will include a photo of the talismanic striker in mid-air alongside 'Carroll 9' and is being installed ahead of the Hammers' crunch match with Manchester City on Wednesday evening."
Fans turned against their former favourite Payet after he signalled his intent to return to France.
West Ham have even offered a discount to fans who want to replace their Payet shirts.
