Cape Town - AC Milan remain in the hunt to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal, but will have to pay £45 million to have a chance of taking him back to Italy.
The 23-year-old only joined the Gunners from Sampdoria last summer, but reports refuse to go away suggesting he could be set for a sharp exit after failing to settle in London.
A return to Serie A with the Rosoneri has been suggested but he will not come cheap with Arsenal said to be holding out for a fee of £45 million for the player.
Whether Milan will go that high remains to be seen, and there has also been talk of them switching targets, but Arsenal will stand firm as boss Unai Emery needs to raise funds to make his own signings during the close season.
The Spaniard has a budget of just £40 million this summer and the sale of Torreira would almost double it and give him more scope to bring in the signings he wants.
Torreira made 50 appearances for Arsenal last season, but it is thought that Emery is open to a sale if Milan pay enough.
