Guardiola: Kompany injury not serious

Cape Town - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that Vincent Kompany's injury is not as bad as first thought, although he will miss the trip to Swansea City.

City fans feared the worst when the club captain failed to emerge for the second-half at Old Trafford on Sunday in the 175th Manchester derby.

The Citizens went on to halt Manchester United's long unbeaten home run with a 2-1 victory, which set a new Premier League record of 14 consecutive wins in a season.

Kompany was withdrawn with a muscular problem, having only made his return last month from a calf injury that had sidelined him for 11 weeks.

But Guardiola has eased frayed nerves with the news that the 31-year-old defender is only expected to ruled out for the short term.

Asked in his pre-match press conference whether Kompany was available to face the Swans, the Spaniard said: "No, but I think it will be less than we expect, so hopefully it could be in the short-term future. But exactly? I don't know."

Guardiola's side have opened up an 11-point lead on neighbours United and will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign at the Liberty Stadium in midweek.

Kick-off is at 21:45.
