Guardiola: Foden will never be sold, not even for €500 million

Cape Town - Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City would never sell midfielder Phil Foden and would even reject a bid of €500 million.

Foden is highly rated by Guardiola but such is the amount of quality in the City squad, the midfielder struggles to get much of a look-in and has to play a bit-part role.

It has been suggested that Foden should go out on loan to get more regular action under his belt, especially if he wants to have a chance of getting into the England squad for the European Championship next summer.

Clubs were said to be interested during the last window although City and Foden turned them down as he was determined to stay and fight for his place at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola has no interest in loaning him out and also has a warning for any clubs who think there may be an opportunity to lure him away on a permanent basis.

Foden is seen as the perfect replacement for David Silva when his time at the club is up and is the only player in the City squad the Spaniard would not consider selling.

Guardiola's comments have appeared in the latest serialisation of a book called 'Pep's City: The Making of a Superteam', and he is very clear with his thoughts on Foden.

"We didn't give Foden a new contract by accident," he said. "He is the only player that can't be sold under any circumstances - the only one. Not even for €500 million. Phil's going nowhere - Phil is City. We won't be signing anyone else for that position.

"When David Silva leaves, we know exactly who our new magician will be."

Foden will be hoping to establish himself sooner rather than later, but has also said he is willing to be patient because he knows his time will come.
