Cape Town - Manchester United midfielder Fred says the release of the Premier League fixtures for next season has made him excited to get back on the field.
Brazil international Fred arrived at Old Trafford last summer from Shakhtar for a reported £52 million but failed to live up to his hefty transfer fee, making just 13 Premier League starts during a disappointing debut season.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival as manager in December did result in the 26-year-old being handed more opportunities and that could bode well for the 2019/20 campaign.
With the new fixtures recently being announced, Fred says the excitement has returned ahead of the new season and he is hoping to show exactly what he can do for the Red Devils.
"When the fixture list is released, while you’re on holiday, wherever it is in the world, it reminds you and it makes you hungry to play again," he told the club’s official website.
"I think that is the starting point of the season.
"It’s nice to be with your family but you miss playing football a little bit.
"You miss being on that pitch but, when you come back for pre-season and get back to training, that’s when you really feel the desire to get back on the pitch with the fans there.
"Last season, my first one here, was difficult but I think I ended the season off okay and I hope next season will be really good for me, and a lot better for Manchester United, and I am excited to be a part of that."
