Frank Lampard closing on Chelsea return

Cape Town - Derby County boss Frank Lampard has reportedly agreed to become Chelsea's new manager after penning a three-year contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea's pursuit of the Derby County manager is nothing new but it looks as though an announcement is close to being made after the two parties agreed on a deal that will see the Blues legend return to Stamford Bridge.

Derby owner Mel Morris has said that Chelsea have yet to make an approach, but the fact he is making moves for Lampard's replacement says it all.

The Rams appear to have failed with an approach for Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, who is keen to stay north of the border for now, so Derby look resigned to losing Lampard.

Claims of the deal being done have been made by Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira, who has been accurate in the past and took to Twitter to break the news.

He tweeted: "It's confirmed: Frank #Lampard will be the #Chelsea's new manager. He'll sign a contract until 2022. #transfers #CFC."
