France coach urges Giroud to leave Gunners

Cape Town - France assistant coach Guy Stephane has urged Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to move to a different club to improve his chances of playing at the 2018 Soccer World Cup.

Giroud has been playing an important part for Les Blues in recent years, and scored the goal that secured their qualification to the 2018 World Cup, but Stephane has made it clear that he needs regular playing time.

The 31-year-old striker has only played 234 minutes of Premier League football and is behind compatriot Alexandre Lacazette in the Arsenal pecking order, which has put his World Cup dream in doubt.

"It’s clear that he’s not playing enough and Didier has already had the chance to talk about it,” France manager Didier Deschamps's assistant Stephane told TF1. “He has to find a solution in the coming weeks.

"It’s up to him to see. He’s been very good in the last couple of months, he's featured a lot and scored important goals, so now he has to play a lot."

Arsenal next travel to the St. Mary's Stadium in an English Premiership clash against Southampton and will be aiming to make up ground on the Manchester clubs.

Kick off is at 14:00.
