Forster willing to make Celtic move permanent

Cape Town - Goalkeeper Fraser Forster has revealed that he would consider leaving Southampton to return to Celtic.

The former England keeper is enjoying his season-long loan deal back at Parkhead, having left Celtic to join Southampton back in 2014 for £10 million.

It appears like Forster's time with Saints is approaching a conclusion after he fell down the pecking order on the south coast under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The 31-year-old has three years remaining on his contract with the Premier League outfit and is reportedly earning £70 000 per week.

Celtic would not be able to match those terms but it looks like Forster would be open to taking a pay cut in order to make a return to Glasgow and sign for the current Scottish champions on a permanent basis.

He was quoted by The Scotsman, saying: "To come back to Celtic like this is fantastic so I'd never say no to this club.

"But it's early doors and a lot of it is out of my hands. We'll just have to wait and see. It's so early in the season but [like I say], I'd never ever say no to this club. It's just the relationship I have with everyone here - the fans, people within the club and the coaching staff."

Southampton's view on Forster's place in the pecking order could be starting to change, after first-choice keeper Angus Gunn conceded nine goals in Saints' thrashing at the hands of Leicester City on Friday night.

With so long remaining on Forster's deal, Saints could conceivably change their mind on his position at the club, especially of Hasenhuttl is unable to turn the ship around at St Mary's and a new manager is brought in.

Meanwhile, Forster is enjoying himself with the Hoops as they challenge for silverware domestically in the Europa League.

"There are just so many big games and it's brilliant," added Forster. "We just need to keep fighting on all fronts and, hopefully, we'll do that. I think we're well suited to it."
