Firmino ready to fill Gabriel's boots

Cape Town - Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino believes he is prepared to fill Gabriel Jesus' position for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay.

Gabriel has been ahead of Firmino in the pecking order for the Selecao, but he broke his foot while playing for Manchester City in their Premier League clash with Bournemouth last month and is still recovering.

The City striker's absence could see Firmino given a starting berth by boss Tite, who has only used the Reds player as a substitute thus far.

"I think we have similar games, that's good. Gabriel unfortunately is injured. But I was in the other call-ups," Firmino told reporters, according to ESPN FC.

"I've been coming in well and have helped. I'm prepared. For me that means everything, a great opportunity. If the coach picks me, I will give my best."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
