Fabregas fires timely reminder

Cape Town - Cesc Fabregas was eager to remind his critics what he is capable of after scoring the winner for Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard has found himself struggling for game time this term under new manager Antonio Conte, but he was given a chance against Sunderland and took full advantage by scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory.

Fabregas has now expressed his desire to fight for a place in the Blues midfield and prove he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level.

"In football today people forget very, very, very quickly who you are, and what you can do. Hopefully now I can get a run of games in the team," he said in the post-match interview.

"People forget that tonight is just the second time in my life that I have played this system. I am getting used to it, I have lots of players in front of me in space and protection behind me.

"We want to keep winning, this period in the year is important and we can say a lot."
