Everyone is Googling Zlatan

Cape Town - Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has edged out team-mate Paul Pogba as the most Googled player in the Premier League this year. 

Out of the 120 countries where sufficient data until mid-August was available, Ibrahimovic topped the most popular player list in 36 nations, including Russia, France and large parts of Scandinavia, Asia and the Middle East.

Pogba, who joined United for a world record £93.25 million in August, was the most searched player in 29 countries, with some of the most notable being Canada and Australia. He was also highly popular in numerous African countries. 

Behind Ibrahimovic and Pogba were Chelsea’s Pedro, who was most popular in seven countries, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy (five) and Arsenal's Mesut Ozil (three).

Some of the more surprising results included Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho being the most searched player in Zambia, Juan Mata topping the search results in Thailand and United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan being the Googled player in Somalia.
