Dortmund strike personal agreement with Man United target Bellingham

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly convinced Manchester United target Jude Bellingham to join them instead.

Birmingham City midfielder Bellingham has emerged as one of the Championship's biggest prospects this season, bursting onto the scene to become a regular at just 16 years of age.

His potential has alerted a range of suitors from the highest divisions, and Manchester United were ready to pull out all the stops to sign him - even offering him a tour of their training ground and giving him the chance to meet the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bellingham fits the mould of the type of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add to his squad at Old Trafford, but United's efforts to sign him may have been in vain, as Sport Bild (via the Metro) claim that Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement to take him to Germany.

The report suggests that Dortmund have taken a big step towards winning the race for Bellingham by coming to a basic agreement with the player that they will be his next destination.

However, it is added that the Bundesliga side are yet to find an agreement with Birmingham over the cost of the transfer. A price tag of £30 million has been mentioned in previous reports.

Chelsea had also been among the contenders for Bellingham, but the midfielder was warned recently to consider how much game time he would get if he was to join a bigger club.

The Bundesliga has provided an inviting route into senior football for some English youngsters in recent years, with Dortmund giving Jadon Sancho his opportunity to breakthrough, for example.

Sancho could return to the Premier League, where Manchester United are among the interested parties, but Dortmund's Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich have also entered the race for the Englishman, according to reports.
