Difference between City and rivals United? 32 points!

Cape Town - Manchester City recorded their biggest points margin differential over cross-town neighbours Manchester United following the conclusion of the 2018/19 English Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola's side successfully defended their title on Sunday with a 4-1 win over Brighton to finish the season on 98 points.

In a snap-shot of their miserable campaign, United went down 2-0 at home to already relegated Cardiff in their final fixture of the season.

That left United with 19 wins, 10 defeats and nine draws - and a final tally of 66 points.

The staggering 32 point difference was the Citizens' biggest ever points margin over their bitter rivals in the history of the Premier League, easily surpassing the 24 point margin set in the 2013/14 campaign.

It was also the biggest points margin between United and any title winner in the 27-season history of the Premier League.

However, their sixth-place finish and 66 points don't represent United's worst ever campaign. That dubious honour belongs to the class of 2013/14 who finished seventh with 64 points.

United also finished with 66 points in the 2015/16 season.

Quite how United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goes about attempting to close that yawning gap to City in the off-season - let alone the other four sides to have finished above them - remains to be seen.
