Demichelis accepts FA betting charge

Cape Town - Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has decided not to contest the FA charge  against him of 12 counts of betting on football.

Demichelis is understood to have breached FA rule E8 on 12 occasions by betting on football matches between January 22 and 28 this year. However, the 35-year-old is not thought to be under investigation for match-fixing or betting on games involving City.

The FA will now decide on the Argentina international's punishment, which could range from a fine to a ban.

Demichelis is currently in France ahead of Wednesday's first-leg Champions League quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain, and manager Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t want the incident to affect his concentration going into the match.

"I speak with Martin every day but now we are just thinking about the game,” Pellegrini told reporters.

"I didn't want to disturb him from different things. He is involved in the game and I am sure he will give the correct answer in the correct moment."
