Cape Town - Borussia Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool squad in the off-season.
Klopp had a meeting with the 19-year-old as he aimed to lure him to Anfield before the start of the season, but Dembele opted to sign for the German tactician's former club instead.
"I saw Klopp in Paris but I told him I had made up my mind to sign for Dortmund," Dembele told FourFourTwo.
"I told Claudio Ranieri the same thing."
Another reported Liverpool target, striker Christian Pulisic, also declined Klopp's offer to join the Reds and signed a new deal until 2020 instead.
"I have respect for Klopp and I know him - he was very welcoming to me here - but I was never really thinking about going to Liverpool," Pulisic said.
"Dortmund have given me everything. If I work very hard here I will play and I love this club."
