Delph eager to remain at Man City

Cape Town - Fabian Delph wants to stay at Manchester City, despite being limited to a fringe role during his two years at the Etihad.

Delph made his first start of the campaign in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea, in what was only his 23rd Premier League appearance for City.

Injuries have not helped, but the England international has been a bit-part player since his £8million move from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015.

But Delph is adamant that he wants to stay at the club next season.

"I’m working with the best management team in the world, as far as I’m concerned, the best players in the world, we’ve got great chemistry, a lot of the boys we’re very close and of course I’d love to be a part of that," he said.

"We’ll have to see what happens at the end of the season."

City boss Pep Guardiola indicated after the game that he has made a mistake this season in overlooking Delph’s credentials.

Guardiola said: "Congratulations to Fabian Delph. He showed me how wrong I was not to put him on the field. He never complains."
