Contract talks not the priority right now - Kompany

Cape Town - Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany says discussions over extending his stay at the club are "not a priority" at the moment as the Citizens look to seal the back-to-back Premier League titles.

The Belgium international's contract expires in the summer and there are doubts as to whether the club's hierarchy will offer fresh terms, given the injury problems the centre-back has had over recent seasons.

Kompany made just his ninth Premier League start of the season in Sunday's 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace and he is in contention to retain his place for Wednesday's crucial Champions League tie at Tottenham Hotspur.

With just a couple of months left on his deal, time is running out for the 33-year-old to earn a new contract although he insists the only focus right now is on helping City finish the campaign strongly.

"I'll be playing next season," he told Jim White on talkSPORT.

"I'm part of the family now so we'll deal with this situation as a family.

"We might agree or disagree, but it won't change any relationships between me and the club. It's not a priority right now."

If Kompany was to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, it would bring an end to a trophy-laden 11-year spell that has provided three league titles to date.
