Cape Town - The Football Association has charged Manchester City and Chelsea for failing to control their players at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

City striker Sergio Aguero sparked a mass brawl when he went in high on Blues defender David Luiz in stoppage time, which saw Antonio Conte's side emerge 3-1 victors.

Fernandinho was also sent off for the hosts after he shoved Cesc Fabregas over the advertising hoarding in the resulting fracas. The FA banned the Argentine and Brazilian for four and three matches respectively on Monday.

However, English football's governing body announced that Fabregas will not face retrospective action for his involvement in Fernandinho's dismissal, with footage appearing to show the Spaniard slapping his midfield counterpart in the face prior to being pushed to the ground.

A statement from the FA read: "Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been charged for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.

"It follows an incident in the 95th minute of the game on Saturday, 3 December. Both clubs have until 6pm on 8 December 2016 to respond to the charge.

"Meanwhile, Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas will not face any further action in relation to an incident involving City's Fernandinho."
