Chelsea ready to pounce on EPL leaders

Cape Town - Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has made it clear that the Blues will be ready to pounce whenever Manchester City or Manchester United drop points.

The Manchester derby is set to take place at Old Trafford on Sunday, which will see one or both of the top teams drop points, and Azpilicueta is eager to keep the pressure on.

"The two teams can't both take three points, so every time you get an opportunity to get close, you have to take it," he told Sky Sports.

"We have to be intelligent to look at ourselves and then we'll see how the opponents will react."

The defending Premier League champions started the season slowly and are 11 points behind leaders Manchester City, but Azpilicueta has urged his teammates to focus on their own game and make sure no opportunities are wasted.

"The only target we have is to keep winning points and not drop any," said the Spaniard.

"We have to go game by game in this busy period in December - every three days you are fighting for a big three points. We have to look at ourselves. In the last few months you can look at where the opponents are until then we can only look at ourselves.

"We will then see where we are in the final weeks of the season, where we could fight for it."

Chelsea face West Ham United at the London Stadium in their next Premier League clash on Saturday.
