Chelsea join United in the race to sign Lyon's Dembele

Cape Town - Chelsea are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Lyon forward Moussa Dembele in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman has established himself as a star man for Les Gones since arriving from Celtic in the summer of 2018.

Dembele has managed 28 goals in just 60 appearances in all competitions and is understood to be a target for Manchester United.

United are planning to move for the 23-year-old in the January transfer window and, as it stands, Chelsea will not be able to compete with them in the winter window.

The Stamford Bridge side are currently under a transfer ban until next summer, but an appeal will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later this month, so they may yet be able to strengthen in January.

Lyon would prefer to keep Dembele until the end of the season regardless and will be hoping the two Premier League giants enter into a bidding war for the forward.

The Ligue 1 club are believed to value the former Fulham attacker at around £71 million although that figure could rise if Dembele impresses between now and the end of the season.

Dembele has managed eight goals in just 11 Ligue 1 games this season despite Lyon's struggles.

Lyon are currently 10th spot in the French top flight after their 3-2 win at Toulouse over the weekend, with Dembele grabbing a goal in that victory.
