Chelsea could throw big money at Leverkusen to sign Havertz

Chelsea are reportedly preparing an £80 million bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz in the off-season.

The 20-year-old is already a Bundesliga star despite his tender age, having made 141 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen over the past four seasons.

And while he has been on the radar of Europe's top clubs for a long period of time, his recent form in the Bundesliga - the only major European league to have restarted - has seen his stock rise further.

The seven-cap Germany international has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United but according to Todofichajes, Chelsea have now registered serious interest.

The source claims that the Blues have identified Havertz as the kingpin for Frank Lampard's side in the years to come and the manager has made his arrival to West London a priority.

Chelsea are aware that several other top clubs in Europe are after Havertz and so want to "speed up negotiations" with Leverkusen.

An £80 million bid will be submitted - with the package to be proposed by chairman Bruce Buck - in the hope that the German side let go of their star talent at the end of next season.
