Champions-elect City are England's best ever side

Cape Town - Sport24 predicts who will be crowned 2017/18 English Premiership champions, with odds-on favourites Manchester City on course for a record-breaking season.

Momentum is one of the most important things in football, whether you're a title winning side - such as the 2016 Leicester side who rode a remarkable wave to be crowned champions - or a relegation-threatened side who just can't seem to find a win.

This is why I'm choosing Pep Guardiola's Manchester City to break further records on their way to lifting the league title.

City are currently undefeated having won 16 games of 17 played this season. They also have by some margin scored the most goals, while, alongside Manchester United, have the best defensive record.

Guardiola has his team playing the best football in the league and possess so many ways to hurt opponents in the final third. They can blitz teams with their devastating attack, wear teams down by dominating possession and also sit deep and catch teams on the break.

They can play you off the park or scrap it out with the more physical sides in the league. Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are on current form the two best midfielders in European football.

Granted it's an easy call to make that City will romp to the title, so I will go one step further by saying they are also the best footballing side in English Premier League history.

Arsene Wenger's 2003/04 Invincibles will always be up there as one of the greats being the only side to go an entire season without tasting defeat. Many people though forget that they drew on 12 occasions and relied heavily on Thierry Henry.

The 1999/2000 and 2008/09 Manchester United sides have to be up there for their titles won and are probably the best overall as they could play attractive football with a never-say-die attitude.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea broke records in his first spell in London in 2004/05, but often played a defensive type of football and ground out results.

But for pure playing style Manchester City are my pick as the best footballing side to have graced the English Premiership. They boast one of the greatest strikers in modern-day EPL history in Sergio Aguero, a player who is advancing the art of passing in De Bruyne and alongside him arguably their best ever player in Silva.

A very important factor is that they have a coach in Guardiola who improves his players, is one of the great footballing minds and is revolutionising the game in the fashion that his mentor Johan Cruyff did.

The scary thing is that they are a young team who are just getting started and who I think will change the way the game is played in England.

Their performances are putting their rivals under pressure by forcing them to improve and I think in years to come we will look back on this team as a reference in revolutionising the league.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
