Campbell joins Sporting on loan from Arsenal

Lisbon - Costa Rican winger Joel Campbell has joined Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan from Arsenal, both clubs announced on Sunday.

The 24-year-old signed for Arsenal in 2011, but struggled for first-team football and spent spells on loan at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal.

Campbell did have a run in Arsene Wenger's side last term, scoring four goals in 30 appearances.

Sporting finished second in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season behind arch rivals Benfica, missing out on the title by just two points.

Jorge Jesus' men have started the new campaign with back-to-back victories over Maritimo and Pacos de Ferreira.
